Day 12: Untarped (Things Get Roof)

Saturday we were descended upon by a flock of roofers. They roofed the back door overhang, the main part of the house, through the sun room, and the front door overhang. Also, our roof is now connected to the old portion. Look at that sexy continuity:

Day 10: Mid-Day Look In

So, the goal is/was get the roof done pre-rain so we don't go another weekend tarped. Based on what I see, I am not sure that's happening in the next day and few hours but who knows, 'there can be miracles if you believe!'

And then upstairs, they were working in the guestroom so rather than impede, just got some shots of the office. Looks like painting will begin soon:

Day 9: Framed, The New Sunroom

Day 4 and into the Weekend: Wrapped Up

So originally they were going to work on the roof on into the weekend due to the rain on Monday. They decided against due to not thinking they could finish on time anyways. WELL THANK GOODNESS. They ran started Saturday, and continued on through till Monday morning. And we had some crazy 40+ mph winds last night that made me think our house was going to blow away. The THWAP of the tarp was like hearing waves crash at the shore. However as it turns out, we did not and the house remained all wrapped up.


In the meantime we did some little jobs like removing tape that had been up for YEARS, so we could repaint and finish the dining room eventually. Learned a valuable lesson. The green tape didn't pull up much paint at all, but the blue destroyed the paint job. The green is definitely better and worth paying up for.


Also, we used the downtime to finalize some kitchen planning with Milton.

Day 4: Not much demolishing as the dumpster is full

So the framing was continued and electrical work done, not a lot of cool things to show. But here are some more shots of the new growth on our house. YES, it will be connected with old roof; NO, it will not stay looking like a seperate entity.

Demolition Day 3: Growth

So we started day three looking like:

However by the time we got home a new growth had emerged! So begins the MASTER BEDROOM!

2011 Status Update

So... going into the year I had a meeting with my financial advisor, who felt that given the projects that I wanted done by end of 2013...

-roof
-attic conversion to bedrooms
-siding
-porch
-front door to porch

...that I should look into getting them done sooner than later. Based on reasonable expectations of my future income it seemed plausible. Until it suddenly wasn't. So the thing is, these things STILL need to get done by 2013. While it is very clear it will not be happening this year, it is also very clear to me that I need to remember that nothing is a given, and I need to really save as much as possible to get ready to have this done. Yes I would LOVE kitchen cabinets, or the stairwell to be fixed up, or the bathrooms to be done asap (these will get done this year), or a myriad of other tasks. But the fact is... if I want to have a kid, I need a room for him/her. So this year there is not going to be the kinds of transformations we saw last year. This year is more about functionality. My 2010 New Years Resolution was to become more handy. My 2011 is to become a better hostess. So just a heads up that the general theme of this year will be working more to make my house a more livable home by increasing storage, functionality, and organization.

Anywho. more pics to come soon, finally got some hanging done!!! (I've had some decorations that have been waiting forever to make it to the wall).

Other things to look forward to:
- finishing the bathrooms
- making a walkway to the front of the house
- better tending the garden
- creating an outdoor "hang out" area with table and chairs, and putting in a dog run
- organizing and cleaning out the porch to make it a usable area at least in the warmer days
- window treatments that are not paper blinds

Just a Thought or Two

-Pull up pee smelling carpet and replace or check for hardwood floors
-Take down wallpaper everywhere
-Paint!
-Mend the grout in bathroom tiles
-Replace the P trap with S
-trap in bathroom (or vice versa) I just know it has the wrong one.
-Put in support beams in garage
-Throw out greenhouse structure access area to basement and replace with lockable doors
-Make walkway up to house
-Repair driveway potholes
-Replace Windows in the front, in particular larger picture windows
-Reside house in a french country blue with gray or off white trim
-Put in gas fireplace with access from sun room and living room where window separating those two rooms is (take out window and build mantle and wall)
-Brick patio out back
-Knock down old stairwell and replace with a more open structure taking out a closet (this is subject to feasibility)
-Put in new cabinets in kitchen
-Make tile back splash for kitchen
-Look into cheap flooring for kitchen and bathrooms (that peel and stick tile I saw on HG TV)
-Replace support beams in basement
-Clean out and try to get to blocked off areas of basement
-Expand room in front to make full third bedroom
-Move vent from sun room back to third upstairs bedroom (apparently used to be there and moved to sun room)
-New roof all one level and with dormers.
